Nonduality points to a direct recognition: experience arises in awareness, and the boundary between “self” and “world” may be less solid than it appears.
What is this idea?
Section titled “What is this idea?”At its simplest, nonduality asks whether there is a separate observer apart from what is being observed. When you look closely at the sense of “I,” you may find thoughts, sensations, and images—but not a fixed entity standing behind them.
Why does it matter?
Section titled “Why does it matter?”Many people report that this investigation changes their relationship to suffering, identity, and meaning. It can bring clarity and freedom. It can also be misunderstood, bypassed, or confused with dissociation.
How can I investigate it directly?
Section titled “How can I investigate it directly?”Sit quietly and notice:
- A sound appears in hearing.
- A thought appears in awareness.
- A sensation appears in the body.
Ask: Where is the one who is separate from these appearances?
Do not force an answer. Notice what is already present before interpretation.
